This striking native orchid, the Flying Duck Orchid (Caleana major), looks just like its namesake! The small terrestrial orchid is found along the east coast of Australia, but is rare in South Australia where this specimen was a welcome sight! I have rendered the flower at eight times life size in artist quality coloured pencil on 100% cotton rag, and framed it in raw timber behind special glass that is UV-protective and anti-reflective. An engaging piece to decorate any small wall space!
