Jadranka Sunde (born in Split, Croatia) moved to Australia from New Zealand in 1989 with her husband and young daughter. After years in academia and research as a mathematician, she retired with the intention to share her time between Croatia and Australia. In her newfound spare time during 2021, she decided to start taking painting classes. It was an unplanned, unexpected turn in her life. While she often experiments using different techniques, her medium of choice is acrylics. Her compositions depict landscapes which exist somewhere between reality and imagination, interwoven by her favourite scenes from sci-fi cinema. She explores the emotion and contradiction that arises from feeling at home in two worlds and is inspired by this duality.
