What the Kitchen Forgets, Burnt Pumpkin Skin

$990.00
In her series, What the Kitchen Forgets, Rebecca Whittemore transforms food waste into fine art, revealing unexpected beauty in the overlooked. By scanning and enlarging kitchen scraps - like burnt pumpkin skin - she exposes their intricate textures and organic forms. These intimate images challenge viewers to reconsider what they discard and confront the environmental cost of everyday consumption. With Australians producing 312 kg of food waste per person annually, over 30% from households, her work underscores an urgent issue. Whittemore invites reflection on sustainability and renewal, encouraging us to see waste not as an end, but as a beginning. This artwork is on exhibition as part of SALA Advertiser Contemporary Art Awards Finalists Exhibition from Aug 1, 2025 until Aug 31, 2025. It will be available for pickup after the end of the exhibition.
