It can be hard, at times, to retain confidence and belief in a project even when nobody else does. Winemaking is a creative vocation and you have to give Max Schubert credit. He had a vision of the wine he wanted to make and he stuck to it. The first batch was an experiment, and most of it was given away. After a few more batches his employers Penfolds told him to stop. In fact, they forbade him to make any more. Yet he continued. In secret. Now a single bottle of Grange Hermitage can fetch over $150,000 (yes, you read that right. Work out how much per mouthful that would be!) It is arguably Australia's most famous wine, and the only wine to be heritage listed by the SA National Trust.
