Two Edged Wattle

$1,200.00
The two edged wattle (Acacia anceps) is a native shrub restricted in range to coastal dunes on the west coast of South Australia and the south east coast of Western Australia. I observed this species flowering in November on the tip of Yorke Peninsula. The thick, leathery modified leaves are adapted to a windy location in the sand dunes and aid the plant’s drought resistance. I was inspired to capture the unique features of the plant in this drawing done in artist quality coloured pencil on archival 100% cotton rag, at about 2.5 times life size. It is framed in raw timber behind specialised glass that is anti-reflective and UV-resistant. This artwork won an Honourable Mention Award from the Botanical Art Society of Australia at their 2021 exhibition in Hobart.
