Rich reds

The vibrant reds in these beautiful poppies create a stunning contrast to the greens against the dark night sky. Painted with brushes (background) and palette knife work, I have created a strong textural piece which many viewers have mistaken for oils. It's rich and glossy, detailed yet it's not, more impressionistic than any other style. Poppies remind each of us of different things - a beautiful garden, a fresh cut of flowers, ANZACs, loved ones - and it's what we see in them which connects us to these memories. To me, poppies remind me of my late Grandfather, my own father and his love of flowers and gardens, and of course, gratitude and acknowledgement of the fallen and living ANZACs and their families. A truly beautiful, rich peice.
