Mother Love

$4,800.00
Mother Love portrays Narelle King, a mother who tragically lost her son, Steven Freeman. Steven Freeman died in custody at the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC) on 27 May 2016, despite Narelle alerting the courts about her son’s state. The system failed both the son and the mother. This piece encapsulates the depths of sorrow and pain felt by a mother who has lost a child, yet it also portrays the incredible love, strength, and resilience that define a mother's spirit. Narelle's story highlights the complexities of maternal love and the unbreakable bond between a mother and her child, even in the face of adversity. The original photo of Narelle use in this artwork, was taken by Rohan Thomson for Canberra Times, who supplied a high resolution photo and permission to use.
