'Joy like a wound' is from the series Body Writing #1 made in 2019. The photograph is constructed along the eroding coastlines of beaches in the South-East of South Australia. Suspended textiles and hidden bodies are arranged in a composition which alludes to ruptures, explosions and wounds. The title for this work is from Hélène Cixous’s text ‘Without End, no, State of drawingness, no, rather: The Executioner’s taking off’ (1998), which is referenced by Linda Marie Walker in the exhibition essay for Body Writing #1 'Parts Apart Read Together'.
