Flamingo Moon

“Flamingo Moon” is a pastel artwork that captures the grace and elegance of one of nature’s most striking birds. The reference photo was taken on the flood plains of Africa, where flamingos gather in serene flocks, surrounded by the soft shimmer of water and sky. Their poised, delicate movements and vivid colouring create a sense of ethereal beauty, which I aimed to reflect in this drawing. Working with pastel on textured pastel paper allowed me to layer gentle transitions of colour and light, highlighting the flamingo’s flowing form and the calm mood of its natural environment. The composition is designed to feel both peaceful and slightly otherworldly, as if time has slowed beneath the quiet glow of moonlight. “Flamingo Moon” is not just a study of a bird but a moment of stillness—a reminder of the beauty that exists when we pause to observe nature's rhythm and quiet grace.
