Black Kangaroo Paw

This unusual Kangaroo Paw, the Black Kangaroo Paw (Macropidia fuliginosa), is a relative of the better known species in the genus Anigozanthus, and has striking lime-green flowers with sepals covered in black hairs. The flowers unfurl and then curl up to create eye-catching shapes and textures. A newly-opened flower is rendered here at 5 times life size in artist-quality coloured pencil on archival cotton rag, then framed professionally in raw timber behind special art glass that is anti-reflective and uv-protective. This drawing won a Highly Commended Award from the Botanical Art Society of Australia in 2022.
